Azimut Yachts became the technical and official partner of Ferrari Hypersail, the Ferrari project designed for high seas ocean regattas.

The collaboration began in the country, with the Hypersail operational base installed on the Azimut spearhead in Livorno, and extends to the present with the Azimut Fly 72 × Ferrari Hypersail, the customized remover developed by the Azimut Technical Department to support the Ferrari Hypersail during the trials initials of the prototype and any rear front end.

Andrea Antichi, general director of Azimut Yachts, commented that Azimut is the only brand in the sector with an independent I+D department dedicated to the development of solutions that do not yet exist on the market. “This decision responds to an insatiable path of progress, the same thing that led us to unite forces with the visionary Ferrari Hypersail project”.

The Azimut I+D and Technical departments tackled a very comprehensive technical plan: designing a high-performance vessel capable of propelling the Ferrari Hypersail prototype at a speed of 30 bares during the initial trials, without sails, in addition to supporting the dynamics of the despegue and the flight over the foils.

The rolled solution personalizes the Azimut Fly 72 platform [initial photo] through specific adjustments in the power-weight relationship. On the one hand, an effective weight reduction program, based on the extensive use of carbon fiber, has reduced the total weight in six tons. On the other hand, the integration of 4,000 power cables into the structural architecture and systems – doubling the power of the model with a configuration designed exclusively for the Ferrari Hypersail – has instilled a spirit of competition in the ship. The installation required a careful design, possible thanks to the experience of the team and the pioneering use of carbon fiber by Azimut in the nautical world.

To fit the Fly 72 to the prototype, the helmet was also equipped with a special removal rod, designed with rigorous resistance tests to withstand extreme static and dynamic stress. This high engineering project has integrated Azimut's experience in naval design, structural and systems engineering, and interior conditioning to perfection.

Finally, all the configuration on board has been customized to give guidance to the team led by Enrico Voltolini and facilitate work during the tests. In later phases, the Azimut Fly 72 will also be used to accommodate the trip and offer VIP hospitality. The embarkation will toast the Ferrari Hypersail team from the key stages of the initial stages until the most important events in the world.
