Gordon Murray Special Vehicles has unveiled the new S1 supercar, a road-focused evolution of the S1 LM.
This manual supercar, powered by a naturally aspirated V12 engine, evolves the S1 LM platform by prioritizing mechanical grip over downforce, thereby delivering a unique driving experience. Its revised suspension offers comfort and refinement for long journeys while upholding Gordon Murray’s signature "Driving Perfection" philosophy. The S1 Commission is the latest model from Gordon Murray Special Vehicles, pushing the company's seven design principles to the limit; only 64 units will be produced.
While the S1 shares its DNA with the S1 LM ("The Special"), its character and purpose are distinctly different. The S1 LM was conceived as the ultimate road-legal, race-inspired celebration of Gordon Murray’s 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans victory. The S1 evolves the S1 LM’s elegant design language while reconfiguring the car for fast, thrilling, long-distance driving.
Commenting on the model, Gordon Murray, Executive Chairman of the Group, says: "We wanted to showcase the beauty and purity of this design by dispensing with the S1 LM’s more extreme aerodynamic elements. It retains the same intensity, responsiveness, and engineering integrity but has been optimized for a different purpose. It is a car you can drive comfortably along the coast—from Los Angeles to Monterey—savoring every gear change, every corner, and every note of the V12 engine whenever the road allows."
Only 64 units of the S1, created by Gordon Murray Special Vehicles, will be manufactured.
The S1 dispenses with the S1 LM’s large fixed rear wing, extended front splitter, and deep side skirts; All exterior body panels are new. The result is a cleaner silhouette inspired by classic proportions.
A new active rear aerodynamic system is integrated into the bodywork, adapting to high-speed stability and braking demands. The approach shifts away from extreme downforce, focusing instead on mechanical grip, balance, and road confidence.
At the heart of the S1 lies a bespoke, naturally aspirated 4.2-litre Cosworth V12 engine producing up to 690 hp. Sharing the same lineage as the S1 LM engine, this 4.2-litre unit has been developed to deliver exceptional responsiveness while retaining the sound, immediacy, and character typical of a Gordon Murray engine.
