Kelp Forest Limited Edition, based on the 41.50 mm Oris Aquis Date diving model, is inspired by the beauty of the world's underwater kelp forests.

Only 1,000 examples will be manufactured, each with a 3D printed sphere that replicates the swaying of seaweed.

The watch hides a story that was revealed by our ambassador, the award-winning underwater photographer Francis Pérez, who has been photographing the ocean for 30 years and has witnessed the dramatic deterioration of kelp forests. The outlook is critical.

Algae are carbon sequestration heroes, producing about 2 percent of the world's oxygen, protecting marine wildlife and creating breakwaters that protect coastal communities. But they are threatened after decades of underwater deforestation. Immense areas of kelp forests have already disappeared.

Aquis Dati comes with a 41.50 mm steel and ceramic case with a minute scale, as well as sapphire, both domed faces, and anti-reflective inner layer. Ready for the deep sea, it supports 30 bars of water resistance.

The importance of algae

Kelps are giant seaweed that can grow up to 60 cm a day. They are carbon capture heroes and produce about 2 percent of our oxygen. They create ecosystems and offer food and shelter to marine fauna. They also form natural breakwaters that protect the coast.

Due to rising ocean temperatures and increasing commercial demand, kelps are seriously threatened. Scientists are already talking about underwater deforestation. It's time for an urgent global conservation effort to protect the world's kelp forests.

Our ambassador and award-winning underwater photographer Francis Pérez states: "It is time to make the threat visible."
