Discover Africa's most spectacular megafauna, from the Super Tuskers of Tsavo to the migratory humpback whales of Madagascar, on a two-week adventure.
The adventure begins in Kenya, flying to the heart of Tsavo East National Park, venturing into one of the country's most remote regions. There, you'll search for the Super Tusker, [initial photo] an extraordinary species of African elephant with tusks weighing over 45 kg each. It is estimated that fewer than 30 of these magnificent males remain, and for the next three days, you'll have the privilege of tracking them in their natural habitat, staying in a private tented camp prepared exclusively for you.
Working with a specialized conservation team dedicated to elephant protection, and utilizing various aerial resources, including several helicopters and a two-seater twin-engine monoplane, you'll take to the skies each day to survey the reserve in search of these animals from the air. On foot, search for nearby waterholes or hike to selected viewpoints, keeping an eye out for any signs of elephants, before returning to your camp each night and sleeping under the tents, lulled by the sounds of the African savanna.
Continue your journey through Tsavo to your next destination, where you'll learn about the work of one of Kenya's pioneering conservation initiatives: the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. The lodge enjoys a prime location near a release site for rehabilitated young elephants, where you'll have the opportunity to observe them up close.
Embark on a safari to explore more of the park, keeping an eye out for both predators and their prey as night falls. Under the cover of darkness, another exceptional encounter awaits: the chance to visit a uniquely designed observation platform overlooking a waterhole. Watch closely as wildlife approaches to drink, before using thermal imagers to locate a particular species: the critically endangered eastern black rhinoceros.
Travel by helicopter to reach a luxurious lodge on a private concession in the foothills of the Chyulu Hills, near the iconic Amboseli National Park. The Amboseli ecosystem is home to approximately ten Super Tusker elephants, including a young male poised to become the next largest of them all. Here, accompanied by your expert guide, you can explore by vehicle or on foot, embarking on a guided safari on foot or horseback across the plains, with the breathtaking backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro in the distance.
Giants of the Seas
After flying from Kenya to Madagascar, the next leg of your expedition begins. Every year, migrating whales travel from Antarctica to Madagascar, swimming north in search of warmer waters. Both sides of the island offer exceptional whale-watching opportunities, and the more sheltered northwest coast provides calmer waters for a week aboard your private 150-foot Asteria. You'll be accompanied by a marine biologist renowned for her pioneering research on humpback whales.
Beyond whale migration, there are numerous opportunities to explore the islands: from the Mitsios Archipelago to the Radama Islands, this spectacular marine environment teems with life. From kayaking through mangroves and snorkeling alongside enormous green turtles as they feed on seagrass just 10 feet below the surface, to spotting other animal species, from the world's smallest chameleon, Brookesia minima, to the Indri indri, the largest lemur on the planet and the most endangered primate in the world, spend your days enjoying the wonders of nature while reflecting on this truly unforgettable expedition.
