Five cars from the McLaren Formula 1 team will be put up for sale by Tom Hartley Jr. The collection spans 32 years of McLaren's F1 history and includes cars driven by some of the greatest legends in motorsport, such as Ayrton Senna, Gerhard Berger, Jenson Button, Lewis Hamilton, and Lando Norris. The five cars are:
- McLaren MP4/6ª, chasis #04, 1991
- McLaren MP4/6ª, chasis #07, 1991
- McLaren MP4/27ª, chasis #01, 2012
- McLaren MCL35M, chasis #01, 2021
- McLaren MCL37A, chasis #03, 2023
The five cars are being offered individually, as each has remained in McLaren's custody since its last racing period, and McLaren will prepare them for their next owner.
These cars represent an important chapter in McLaren's history and tell an extraordinary story of technological and sporting evolution: from the naturally aspirated Honda V12 of Senna and Berger, through the naturally aspirated V8 era of Button and Hamilton, the turbo-hybrid generation, and the emergence of Norris as McLaren's most recent World Champion.
“We’ve decided to part with these iconic McLaren Formula 1 cars because we believe that simply having them in storage is disrespectful to what they represent,” commented Zak Brown, Chief Executive of McLaren Racing. “These cars were built to be driven and raced, and we want to see them in use and enjoyed. We believe that’s the best way to keep our history alive and our business tradition active.”
- McLaren MP4/6A #04, 1991. Chassis #04 is an exceptionally important ex-works McLaren from the golden era of Senna-Berger. Driven by Berger during McLaren-Honda's successful 1991 World Championship campaign, the car finished second in the 1991 San Marino Grand Prix, contributing to one of McLaren's most dominant performances in F1 history.
Powered by Honda's legendary RA121E naturally aspirated V12 engine, the MP4/6A represents the last generation of McLaren's magnificent V12-powered championship cars.
- McLaren MP4/6A #07, 1991. The second 1991 MP4/6A, chassis #07, offers an equally fascinating combination of racing history and factory provenance. Driven by Berger during McLaren-Honda's 1991 World Championship-winning campaign, chassis #07 finished second in the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, McLaren's home race.
- McLaren MP4/27A #01, 2012. It represents one of the most successful periods in McLaren's modern F1 history. Driven by 2009 World Champion Jason Button during the decisive final stages of the 2012 F1 World Championship, it competed amidst one of the most intense title battles of the modern era.
- McLaren MCL35M #01, 2021. The MCL35M represents an important link between McLaren's historic past and its contemporary resurgence in F1. Chassis #01 was driven exclusively by Norris during the 2021 F1 World Championship season.
- McLaren MCL37A #03, 2023. The centerpiece of this extraordinary offering is the MCL37A-03, a car that combines contemporary F1 performance, multiple Grand Prix podium finishes, a remarkable list of drivers, and a history that continues almost to this day.
